Herts joins the Guardian’s Top 50 British Universities

16 Sep 2025

The University of Hertfordshire has jumped more than 20 places in the 2026 Guardian University Guide, breaking into the top 50 for the first time in its history.

Eight healthcare courses were named among the top 10 nationally, with physiotherapy ranked 4th, social work 5th and mental health nursing 7th. Children’s nursing, midwifery and paramedic science also secured 10th place.

Professor Anthony Woodman, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hertfordshire, said: “This is a landmark moment for the University of Hertfordshire and we couldn’t be more thrilled by this remarkable overall result, as well as the many subject-level achievements. Breaking the top 50 for the first time in our history shows our commitment to continuous improvement and reflects how we are looking confidently to the future.”

The announcement comes as the university begins recruitment for its new medical school and MBBS programme, set to launch in the next academic year.

The Guardian University Guide rankings are based on data from the National Student Survey, entry standards, student satisfaction, assessment and feedback, and graduate outcomes. Unlike other rankings, they do not include research performance, placing greater emphasis on teaching quality and the student experience.

This achievement stands as a testament to the dedication and hard work of both the University of Hertfordshire and its official pathway provider for international students, the Hertfordshire International College.
