We’re thrilled that you’re considering Hertfordshire International College (HIC). This is important information about the admission and registration process:
Regardless of age, we expect all students to take on adult responsibilities, live independently, and follow our community rules.
To help keep minors safe, and ensure their wellbeing throughout their course, there are some key things to bear in mind.
- Minors must have a UK Based Guardian. This can be a family member, friend or professional guardianship service
- Minors must live either:
- On campus
- With their guardian
- With a family member over the age of 25
- All students must live within a 20-mile radius of the college
- Minors must check in with a member of our Wellbeing Team at least every two weeks
There are some additional things to consider for minors:
Pre-Application Visit
We recommend individuals under 18 and their parents/guardians visit the University of Hertfordshire and HIC before applying or accepting an offer to familiarize themselves with our environment. You can book a campus tour here (link to simplybook page)
Medical Consent
Students under 18 may consent to medical treatment if they have sufficient understanding.
In emergencies, we act based on medical advice, prioritizing the student’s best interests.
Safety and Legal Compliance
Although not in loco parentis, we strive to provide a safe environment for all students, adhering to legal obligations and regulations.
Under 18s and Alcohol
No student under 18 may enter bars on campus to ensure legal compliance.
Any illegal incidents involving alcohol or tobacco by under 18s will lead to appropriate disciplinary action.
Care Arrangements
Parents/guardians of international students under 18 must ensure suitable care arrangements, including travel, reception, and living arrangements, in compliance with Home Office requirements.
